1185 Park Avenue at 93rd Street
Circa 1929 // ARCHITECTS: Schwartz and Gross // BUILDER: Bricken Construction Co.
This has to be one of my personal favorites! The entrance to this building is stunning — the full block frontage on Park allows you to drive into a courtyard through a gothic-inspired pointed arch. The apartments are flawlessly laid out, rooms are grand, and closet space is ample. As good as prewar gets, and there is not a bad apartment in this entire building. This is quite an accomplishment for a building this size — a feat achieved by only the very best of prewar architects. This building and 101 CPW, also by Schwartz and Gross, are definitely in Candela, Carpenter, and Roth’s league.
